Billingsgate Market roof renewal

Keegans were appointed by the City of London Corporation as Lead Designers for the renewal of the main flat roof covering at Billingsgate Market. The roof also covers office areas and a cold store but mostly over the market hall, an unheated open area.

There was consultation with the market users regarding the works and it was key to ensure that the works took place without disruption or contamination affecting trading operations.

We  negotiated with Building Control for dispensation of Part L, avoiding insulation under current regulations as there was no benefit to the building and end users as it is an unheated market space.

Keegans produced the Design & Build specification and working with a team of other consultants was involved in the tender evaluation process, analysing the design proposals to ensure they complied with the Design & Build specification.

Once on site we were responsible for on-site quality control and carried out frequent site visits and signed off snagging at the end of the project.
