Carl Barrick is the Associate Director in our Compliance and Safety team at Keegans. With a focus on Fire Risk Assessments (FRA) and External Wall System (EWS) inspections, Carl's primary focus is conducting thorough Building Control inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory standards. His proficiency extends to plan checking and providing fire consultations, where he meticulously assesses and advises on safety measures. Carl has achieved the highest category as a Registered Building Inspector - Class 3 (3G & 3H) Specialist Inspector - authorising him to inspect and work on all buildings, including high-risk and complex structures.
Carl brings a wealth of expertise and experience in Building Control to the Keegans' Compliance and Safety team. With a background as a qualified Carpenter, Carl possesses practical knowledge of carpentry and general building practices, enhancing his understanding of construction processes. Furthermore, his proficiency in site engineering, including levelling and setting out, ensures precision and accuracy in project execution.
Carl's career history reflects his dedication to the field, having served in various capacities. As a Senior Project Surveyor, he has managed projects of diverse scales, ranging from small domestic to large commercial and mixed-use developments.
Before joining Keegans, Carl worked as a Building Control Officer, conducting comprehensive plan checking and site inspections to verify compliance with building regulations. Additionally, Carl has gained valuable experience as a self-employed builder, overseeing general domestic building works and construction management.
Managed Building Control for diverse projects:
Carl's commitment to professional development is evident through his extensive training and qualifications. Notably, he has completed specialized training as an EWS Surveyor and attained Chartered membership in the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE). Furthermore, his qualifications include a Level 6 Building Control award, a City & Guilds Level 4 in Construction, and NVQ levels 3, 2, and 1 in Carpentry.
Carl is an active member of professional associations such as the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (Associate) and The Institute of Engineering and Technology (Member). His dedication to ongoing professional development and engagement in professional communities underscores his commitment to excellence in compliance and safety within the construction industry.
Outside of work, Carl is an avid sports enthusiast and martial artist who enjoys staying active. He is particularly skilled in football, tennis, and trail running, completing an ultra-marathon, representing his county in tennis matches and is a loyal supporter of Newcastle United. Carl has achieved a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he runs a submission grappling school in Bedfordshire.
