Volunteering at Notre Dame Girls School
Last week Cara Chan and Anna Dewey had the privilege of volunteering at Notre Dame Girls School in a lesson all about becoming a Quantity Surveyor.
The lesson started off with Holly from Construction Youth Trust talking to the Yr7 girls about the Built Environment and all the different careers available in the sector, in particular the role of the Quantity Surveyor. Cara and Anna were then given the opportunity to present to the girls how they got into their careers in the construction industry and what they enjoy.
After this, it was time for the task where the girls had to take on the role of a quantity surveyor and work out the best quantity and price for paint to refurbish their classroom.
“Slightly nervous that I was going to have to dip deep into my arithmetic skills I knew I had Cara there to lead the way! It felt very rewarding to be able to assist the students, helping them out with their maths and solving the problem and by the end of the session the students were all fully engaged and enthusiastic.” – Anna Dewey
Cara and Anna may have just inspired one or 2 to consider careers in the industry, so much so that they insisted on having a photo with us at the end. The Construction Youth Trust and the school were so appreciative of their time and input, and the enthusiasm and thanks from the students at the end was heart-warming.
