Sir Joseph Williamson’s Maths School

Medway Council instructed Keegans to act as Employers Agent and Quantity Surveyors for the expansion works to Sir Joseph Williamson’s Mathematics School, Rochester, ME1 3EL to provide:

• The provision of a new 11 classroom maths block including ancillaries.
• A Sports/Assembly Hall extension.
• Modification and re-routing below ground services supplies, electric, water and gas.

The project was procured using Medway Council’s preferred framework via a single stage tendering process and using JCT Design and Build Contract 2016, with client amendments. During the pre-contract phase Keegans carried out an expansive value engineering process, reviewing modern methods of constructions, modular designs, etc and provided the client with time and cost options for the project.

As Employers Agent, we were careful to ensure that the Employer’s Requirements were drafted in a form that harnessed the maximum value for money that the successful contractor could provide, by avoiding prescriptive design solutions & construction methods. The building contract was awarded comfortably within the client’s budget and the pre-tender estimate.

The Client and school are very satisfied with the progress. The project is currently matches the contract programme and the construction spend curve. We anticipate completion slightly ahead of time and within budget.
