Edward Woods Estate, Hammersmith
Client name:LB Hammersmith and Fulham
Services:CDM Co-ordination, Clerk of Works
Value:£10,000,000
Keegans were commissioned to provide CDM Co-ordinator services to London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham for the transformation of three Local Authority tower blocks in Shepherds Bush alongside our sister company ECD Architects whom were the lead designers and project managers. The development to these three 24 storey blocks has become an exemplar of sustainable tower block regeneration and a flagship renewable energy project scheme for the Borough.
The refurbishment to Edward Woods Estate includes extensive over cladding and rooftop extensions to significantly enhance the energy efficiency of the existing dwellings and improve their visual appearance plus adding a 24th floor penthouse suite.
The scheme incorporates the largest building-integrated renewable energy array in London, generating solar and wind-powered electricity for the buildings’ communal facilities and greatly reducing CO2 emissions attributed to the buildings.
Value has also been added to the towers through the creation of four super-insulated low-carbon flats at each tower’s roof level, and the conversion of under-utilised ground level storage areas into office space for rent to local charitable organisations.
Other works included the redecoration of lifts and landings, enhancement of the recycling collection areas, and improved satellite reception equipment. All these measures extend the life of the buildings beyond current expectations and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the estate.
