PassivHaus Scheme Receives Planning Approval

Keegans are pleased to announce our Passivhaus, low embodied carbon Sheltered Housing scheme at Afflets Court for Basildon Council has achieved planning.
As Employers Agent, Quantity Surveyors, Principal Designers and Clerk of Works, working with our architects ECD, the project brief for Afflets Court mirrored the client’s commitment to the climate emergency which delivers a robust Passivhaus strategy for the development, with low embodied carbon solutions to the building fabric including its Cross Laminated Timber structural frame.
The scheme provides seven, purpose built Sheltered Housing units, incorporating key design elements to support the ‘third age’ residents, including textures, colour selection, lighting, zoning and wayfinding strategies – in line with the HAPPI standard, Dwell and designing for dementia and altzimer’s guidelines.
The strength of the scheme reasserts Afflets Court at the junction of Fair Mead and Moat Field roadways, establishing the building architecturally on the streetscape, whilst improving the facilities for the residents to foster happy, healthy and independent lifestyles.
