Careers Workshop success with Southwark Schools

On Tuesday 2nd July N-Able Group hosted a Careers day with Southwark schools, giving 18 students the opportunity to learn about the skills and knowledge they will need to get into the construction industry.

The purpose of the event was to inspire students and raise awareness of the career opportunities available to young people in the construction industry.

The workshop kicked off by defining architecture. Students were given the opportunity to express their ideas and perspectives around the construction industry. This was followed a day in the life segment which took students through the various stages required to get a building from planning to the final stages of the project. Students then participated in an exciting game where they had to guess the materials they were shown in well-known movies. For the second part of the workshop, students were challenged to the spaghetti and marshmallow activity. In this task, they had to create the tallest and strongest tower using only spaghetti and marshmallows. Each material had a specific cost which gave students the opportunity to think about cost effectivity.

The workshop was truly a success and students throughout the workshop were fully engaged. Additionally, students were given the opportunity to ask architects industry questions.

We are delighted to have hosted this event. We look forward to working with more young people in the local community.
