Building Safety and the publication of PAS 9980
The new PAS 9980 for building safety was published on 12th January. The Building Safety Consolidated Guidance Note have been withdrawn and in its place is the newly published PAS 9980 which has been developed by the British Standards Institution. It provides new guidance on how to assess the risk of fire via an external wall of an existing multi-storey, multi-occupied residential building. The new PAS 9980 standard builds upon the advice set out in the Consolidated Advice Note published originally by the MHCLG in 2020 by using a five-step risk assessment process and considers factors beyond the wall construction having regard to Fire Performance, Façade configuration and fire strategy/hazards.
Where it is determined that a detailed assessment of an external wall is required, PAS 9980 should now be used for these assessments.
Keegans have been conducting EWS1 Surveys for clients for the past year and we have a team of Fire Safety professionals. We are adopting the new standard and will continue to support our clients with Fire Risk Assessment and External Wall investigations and reports.
