Be First secures permission for 64-home scheme in Dagenham
Housing Today reports ‘Be First secures permission for 64-home scheme in Dagenham’
‘Barking and Dagenham council has approved plans for a 64-home affordable housing development from the council’s own company, Be First.
The council’s planning committee has approved the proposal, designed by Karakusevic Carson Architects, to redevelop a former Royal British Legion hall and 18 adjacent flats on Jervis Court and Rectory Road in Dagenham into homes for affordable rent.
The development, ranging from three to eight storeys, includes 17 family homes, community space and a nursery for residents. All homes will be dual aspect with their own private outdoor space and access to a communal garden.
The plans were approved despite being double the density recommended for the area under the London Plan. Officials said this was justified “given the high-quality nature of the proposed development”.
Sarah Beth Riley, associate architect at Be First said: “This development is a successful addition to the streets of Dagenham as it places community at the heart of design. It has all the right ingredients for joyful family life.”
Keegans are working closely with Be First on this scheme as quantity surveyors and employers agents and are delighted this scheme has achieved planning.
