Keegans (formerly Dearle & Henderson Consultancy) have a long running association with Morrison Bowmore Distillers and had previously carried out feasibility studies for a visitor centre at the Auchentoshan Distillery.
In March 2008 MBD asked us to prepare proposals to refurbish existing ground floor offices into a new visitor centre. This would be the starting point for distillery tours and as such the design had to be contemporary, using high quality materials, and include a waiting area and shop along with an interactive display on the history of the distillery.
The project required extensive re-modelling of the entrance into the distillery to create distinct public/private access, and significant internal structural work to allow the 18th century building to be opened up into a modern, contemporary space.
The new centre has been a huge success story with visitor numbers well in excess of anticipated and proposals already underway for a future extension.
